How do I calculate the required average world temperature for specifically-sized polar ice caps?

I know the average world temperature is 59掳 F. How do I calculate what the average world temperature would need to be for the ice caps to generally/on average be at, say, 32掳 North/South, or any other specific latitude?|||In my opinion, I don't think this would be very difficult to determine since the energy is not evenly distributed , the earth circulation is not uniform or constant, and temperature sensors for estimating the earth surface temperatures are mot evenly collected in a grids like system or a even density fashion.

What average do I need to maintain for McMaster engineering ?

I got accepted yesterday to mcmaster for engineering, I got both an email and offer on ouac. However, I don't see the conditions or what average I need to maintain or any of that stuff anywhere ? Does anyone know where I can find those ?|||You need a minimum 4.0 Gpa to stay in any program at Mac. a 4.0 is a 60%. However for level two programs it is subject to competition so the higher your mark the better chance of getting the program you want.

How long does the average soldier spend in the army?

I'm doing some research and want to know the average number of years that someone spends in the Army.

Obviously some spend the minimum time for enlistment and others spend years and years. I'm looking for an average number that is spent.|||Here is an interesting website: http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/joiningup/a/recruiter4.htm

It has this paragraph:

Enlistment Periods. Thought you were enlisting for four years? Think again. It may surprise you to learn that ALL non-prior service enlistments in the United States Military incurs a total eight year service obligation. Yep. When you sign that enlistment contract, you are obligating yourself to the military for a total of eight years. Whatever time is not spent on active duty, or in the active Guard/Reserves (if you enlisted in the Guard/Reserves) must be spent in the inactive reserves.

I think it was written by "someone who's been there."|||Over 40% of soldier who enlist, do not even complete their initial service obligation.

They are separated because criminal behavior, drug use, pre existing medical conditions, medical conditions, failure to adapt, failure to meet standards, etc.

If you were to figure out the average time spent in service by everyone who enlist, it would be around 3 years.

The Army has 500,000 service members, 70,000 leave the service every year.|||15% don't make it through basic training. I'd say another 10% get put out for medical, discipline, or other problems. I'd say 3 in 4 enlistedmen who complete their first enlistment get out after 3 or 4 years (1 enlistment). A few who get out come back, a few join he national guard, and a few get out, go to college, and become officers. I'd say another 25% get out after another 3 or 4 years. Most of the remaining stay 20 years. A few get out of other services and then join the Army. Officers have to do college and ROTC/West Point plus 4 years, and I'd say half get out after 4. Most of the rest do 20 years.|||Average is about 6 years I believe. If you are committed in joining but not sure for how long, try the minimum which is 3 years. Then If you like it, you can rein-list.|||The average time is six years. Give or take a few months. They were talking about this on the discovery channel a few days back.

On average, what does it cost to replace the leaching fields of a septic system?

This is in the Northeast USA: Our septic system is original to a 1950s house and is still functioning. The tank and baffle are in working order. The leaching fields are ponded to capacity (but still functioning). How much, on average, can we expect to pay to replace the leaching fields only?|||This really varys alot depending on location and soil conditions. Also local health dept. usually spell out how it must be constructed. Mine in sandy soil was $1000 , my father in clay soil was $11000.

How long is the average time for completing a novel from start to finish?

For those of you who have completed a novel or have knowledge in the field of literature what is the average completion time for an average sized novel 60,000-80,000 words?|||It's difficult to say; Donna Tartt has written 2 books in 10 years, while Danielle Steele puts out 2 books a year. I wrote a book (from roughdraft to revisions) in 4 years. I would think the average is probably 2 year-3 years.|||I'm no expert, and I've never written a novel, but I've heard of books that have taken a decade or more to write, and others less than a year-of varying sizes. It all depends on how easily the words you want come to you and how inspired you are to write it.

The average I'd say is about 3.5 years|||There is never a time line. It takes as long or short as it needs to, but usually it won't take less than a year, pretty much three years I guess is an average time frame if that's what you're looking for.|||http://www.peacecorpswriters.org/pages/d鈥?/a>

How to write a novel in 100 days or less.

What is the ideal average global temperature for the earth?

We hear everyday about global warming and climate change. We know that an increase of a couple of degrees to the average global temperature will be devastating. But what exactly is the ideal average temperature to sustain life as we know it?|||The average distance of the earth from the sun provides the average temperatures required for life. Earth maintains an average temperature of 15 degrees Celsius which is an ideal temperature for life to thrive.

What year was the average fuel economy for American vehicles the highest?

Someone told me there was a year in the 80s when the average fuel economy of all the cars on the road was 30mpg. Is that true? Does anyone know where I can find this information, a chart perhaps? I'd also like to know what the average is this year.|||In the past 30 years, the EPA has forced the fuel companies to change their fuel to meet pollution standards.

Each time it changes fuel economy goes down.

In 2005 the Hyundai Accent had a 35-37mpg rating

in 2006 it was lowered (as were all cars) to 33-35

It had nothing to do with the cars themselves.

The oil companies raised the ethanol content in the fuel.

The more alcohol you have the worse the fuel mileage is.

which is funny because, it costs less to make and we are paying more for driving less.

So the mileage data you will get from the 80s, will not compare today's fuels or ratings|||I don't believe it is true, In the 80s cars were smaller but their engines were sucking fuel worse than today's cars.|||I think you may find some of the worst fuel mileage averages were in the early '70's. Fuel got very expensve then and our '60's "muscle cars" and our 18' long, 4,000 lb cars were getting 9 to 12 mpg back then. And a gal. of gas- a whopping 39 CENTS!
