How many tires does an average 747 go through?

I was watching something on 20/20 or one of those shows and they said that on average a 767 in it's lifetime will have it's wheels changed like 50 times, and it will go through 12 engines. The numbers were very high, i thought. Anyone know on average how many engines, tires, and other replaceable things that an average 747 goes through in its life time?|||According to Goodyear, on average each B747 tire gets about 190 landings per year. How often the tires actually must be changed depends on the number of landings and the tire position (axle). Plus, due to the unique landing characteristics of the B747-400, the last row of the body gear, in particular wheel positions #7, 8, 11, and 12, are the last to leave and the first to touch the tarmac. The tires installed in these four positions experience faster wear and, therefore, require relatively more frequent tire change.

If you figure two touchdowns per day x 1 year = 730 landings divided by 190, that's 3-4 tire changes a year.

The 747-400 has 16 main landing-gear tires and two nose landing-gear tires. So if every tire was changed only once, that is 54-72 tires annually x a 20 year "lifetime" of the aircraft is......

1,080 - 1,440 tires!|||An average amount..........|||I think it really depends because if the flight crew on one particular airline is not trained as well, they may land the plane harder thereby having the aircraft go through many wheels. Also when my mom worked at an airline, when they trained pilots, they were doing multiple take-offs and landings due to practice. It would drive Maintenance crazy because they would have to be constantly changing tires.

The 747 has 18 wheels and assuming the airline keeps the aircraft at least 20 years, it could easily go through 50 changes of tires. I am guessing the tires get changed at least twice a year.|||20
