How can an average person ever get good at doing something?

There's geniuses who are good at math, science, and all that. The'res people who have facility with speech, there's superb artists, there's this and that.

Then, there's us average people. We have passions, we practice but we never get good at them. Is there any way to turn amateur skill into professional skill.. when you're an average joe and have learning disabilities that make you different from others.|||A famous greek philosopher suffered of stuttering. He used to put in the mouth some small stones and started to speak loudly in a place where nobody could hear him....With much will after some time he became a fluent and appreciated speaker...|||sometimes it,s not a learning disability but a hearing problem|||getting good at anything requires repetition.... BUT sometimes in order to improve creative thinking and learning it is important to regularly challenge and stimulate the brain... in a totally different way than what it is you are passionate about (for you foreign language).

THIS can be done in many ways. I would suggest doing some sort of math problem every morning to get your brain going... then doing one in the afternoon... and maybe playing some sort of thinking game on your computer in the evening... so 3 times a day you're stimulating your brain in different ways than you are used to.

It is important to study what it is you want to be good at, but practicing other thinking skills will help you think more clearly in general and maybe make learning easier for you. It really helps. Take a break from studying language and do a math problem, then go back to studying language. You will be surprised.

Try going to a website like Brainbusters or look up other thinking exercises online, there are tons of them!!! good luck!
