What is the average temperature supposed to be?

Global warming begs the question, what is the average temperature supposed to be? Since it is an average what is the acceptable fluctuation or delta? Is it 1/2 a degree, 1 degree, 2 degrees Celsius?|||Believers can't answer that. Know y? Cos no-one can! The PRESUMPTION of thinking that weather must act according to some pathetic model! And if it doesnt, there's something wrong with the weather-not the model! Seriously, weather and climate are chaotic systems. Ever heard the saying 'a butterfly flapping its wings in singapore can cause a tornado in texas'?

Also, all the cycles on earth (hydrological, wind etc) are driven by the sun, so solar activity will ALWAYS be the biggest factor, followed by volcanism on earth. Humans are spectators, not players.|||It should be noted that the entire Global Warming - Go Green Frenzy is a manufactured fraud whose true purpose is to bring about:

1) To fear monger and get the world to believe that humans are a scourge that is causing global warming which will soon kill the earth if humans are not stopped.

2) A global tax on all human breathing (Carbon Taxes)

3) Extensive environmental regulations that will dictate, regulate and control nearly every facet of human life

4) To prevent the 3rd world from having any future opportunity to make any significant economic or technological advancements that would be able to rival and challenge 1st world hegamony.

The science actually clearly shows that the earth is cooling not heating up. Pretty shocking huh???

If you think all the above is complete nonsense, rather than blindly accept and repeat everything you've previously hear about global warming take some time and do some independent research of your own.

Here are some good places to start:|||There is no set average, the current average is based on the average temp taken from various weather stations around the world to determine an average, the temperature record goes back 150 years and the trend of the average over that time has been a rise 0.6 deg c. The Earth has had periods in the past when it has been totally frozen or tropical with no polar ice at all but these were millions of years ago, the concern to us is the current average and the fact it is going up. It is simple physics that if the world is warmer the rate of ice melt will increase, the follow on to that is sea level rise.|||The Earth do not have an ideal temperature. But today's temperatures are unusual compared to the last 1000+ years.[1]

Please remember that we are not just talking about 1掳 here. Due to increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the average global temperature is expected to rise by another 1.1 to 6.4掳C by 2100.[2] The most likely increase will be between 1.7 and 4.4掳C.

If humanity decreases the amount of CO2 emissions that are released into the atmosphere, then the temperature change will be smaller; if the amount of emissions increase, then the temperature rise will also increase. Most climatologists remain optimistic because if humanity acts soon, then the most harmful of possible effects of climate change may be avoided.|||Every group seems to come up with one favoring their agenda. The current one used by the IPCC and GISS seems to be from the late 1800s when we were coming out of the dalton solar minimum and so about 1c colder than the 1000 and 2000 year averages and about 1.5c colder than the 8000 year holocene average. So if you use the 2000 year average our current climate maximum of 1998-2005 was .3c under that average for the period. This is why investigation always overrides evangelical hype.|||Well your right, it does deserve a decent answer. Written records go back to 1659 England, contemporary records use 1880's or the onset of the Industrial era. Averages are averages, just a mathematical tool that quantifies whatever inception date one wishes to use.

Here's a plot showing Global averages and fluctuations for the 1880's to 2004. In no way should these be confused with optimal or idealize temperatures. http://www.earth-policy.org/Indicators/T鈥?/a>

You will find certain fields of science do rationalize optima but this is restrictive. For example a biologist might consider one temperature range. And a geologist another.|||The average temperature IS 59 degrees Fahrenheit. Since people don't want change, that's what it is "supposed to" be.|||The wind chill sure brings down the Temperature
